Buying and Installing Rain Gutters - Sectional or Seamless Rain Gutters, Which is Best?
Sectional and seamless are the two main types of rain gutter systems, which are available. The main benefit of the sectional system is that many do-it-yourselfers can successfully install these gutters because of their multi-configurable parts. These are usually constructed of either vinyl or aluminum sections, which are fastened together then sealed with an appropriate sealant. The main disadvantage however, is that with sectional rain gutters if the joints are not properly connected and sealed, they are prone to develop leaks. For many styles of gutters, there are add-ons, such as screens, toppers, and filters, which help to prevent debris from clogging the gutter system. Gutter toppers, also know as helmets, are covering that permit the water to flow over a contoured lip that feeds into the gutter system, keeping out debris, so that you dont have to clean your gutters. Some systems do work better than others, so when shopping around for gutter toppers, ask the homeowners how have them how they like their system. Seamless rain gutters are also referred to as no-clog systems, in that there are no seams to catch debris as it washes down and out the down spout. Seamless gutters are quickly becoming a popular choice due to their smooth clean appearance, durability, and easy maintenance. When installing gutters yourself, you must hang them using a chalk line. You want to snap the chalk line at approximately 1/4-inch slop down toward the downspout for every 10 feet of gutter. This ensures that your new gutters will flow properly, as they increase the value of your home.
