Our collection of home improvement and building guides.

When it is time for you to get your tools out and start doing home repairs we have you covered. We have collected information from across the web to help you you do the job right.

Choosing the right replacement windows
Select windows that will work best in your climate. For example, if you live in a cool, damp climate, you will want windows that keep the warmth in and the cold out. An astonishing amount of heat can be lost through badly insulated windows. If you work with a window company or contractor, they should be able to help you choose windows for the climate in your area. One of the reasons you would want to replace your windows is energy efficiency. Leaky windows cause your home to lose heat, so it only makes sense to replace those old wooden windows with energy efficient ones. The wooden window frames have old world charm and appeal but are not very efficient. You can also add resale value by replacing your old windows with new vinyl windows.

double doormat
One way to help keep your home dirt free is to use a double door mat. Double door mats will help trap loose dirt and mud meaning less gets tracked through the house.

wall mount coat racks
With a wall mounted coat rack your guests know where to put their coats when they come in your house. So rather than just draping them over a couch have a place where your guests can pace their jackets.

About synthetic window shutters
High-quality synthetic window shutters, fairly new on the market, may be an attractive option. Although many synthetic products contain the word "wood" in their name, most of them contain no wood at all. Instead, they are composed of faux (false) wood. Poly shutters are manufactured from nonrenewable resources. Synthetic window shutters made from stock-size components have few or no custom options. They look like plastic and feel like plastic. If you tap them with a finger, they sound like plastic. They come in a range of light colors and cannot be stained. Although they cost less to make and therefore to buy, they are heavy and may sag after a time.

Best pellet stoves
Since a pellet stove does not need ventilation from a chimney they can be moved placed in any area that you think needs a little more warmth. Mostly though they are placed in living rooms and bedrooms since this is where most people spend their time.

modern track lights
With track lighting you can accent certain pieces of furniture or even artwork. Browse the many different kinds of modern track lights.

Cue stick wall rack
Find a bunch of different wall racks for your cue stick, but if you have more room in your pool room then try using a cue stick rack.

Window Shutters
Originally designed for the tropics, the Plantation shutters of the style Bermuda is the most romantic. Typically used for sun screening and moderate storm protection, one shutter panel will usually cover the entire window. It is hinged from the top and installed with a custom fit support arm to keep the shutter in an open position-perfect for capturing ocean breezes during long afternoon siestas.

new unique wall sconces
When buying wall sconces choose a soft light for a romantic room. If you are using the wall sconce for lighting then choose a more brighter light bulb to add to the sconce.

solar yard lights
In addition to being easy to set up solar yard lights will work even on cloudy days. This is what makes these types of lights very popular with homeowners.

backpack leaf blowers
Need to clean a large area in front of your house or business then try using a backpack leaf blower. These types of blowers are easier to carry when compared to the hand held blowers.

How can glass be insulated and still let sunlight in and allow us to see out?
Insulated vinyl replacement windows were first comprised of thermal panes, or two or more pieces of glass sealed together to form an airtight center. They stopped most of the heat from escaping in the winter and much of the heat from entering in the summer. Next, thermal window panes were coated with an invisible film that enhanced their insulating properties. They kept even more warm air inside in the winter and more cool air inside in the summer. Most recently, the insulating properties of thermal panes have been further improved by filling the spaces between the layers of glass with special gases.
